Fern V. Buchanan

Fern V. Buchanan, 87, of Jones Road, Harrisville, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, with her family by her side. She had been hospitalized after a fall at her home two weeks ago. Born Nov. 18, 1922, in Venango County, she was the daughter of Lindsey R. Cooke and Bertha V. Baker Cooke. She was a 1939 graduate of Harrisville High School. She was a homemaker and had previously been employed by Five File Brothers and also Dads Restaurant, both in Grove City. She had also worked at Hughes Penn Gold Ice Cream in Harrisville and held several housekeeping jobs. Fern was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grove City. She loved her Lord and lived her life as a testament to her faith. For many years she assisted with vacation Bible school and served as an assistant secretary of the Sunday school. Perhaps Fern will best be remembered for the unconditional love she gave to her sons and their families. She was constantly providing comfort and support and always saw the best in everyone and every situation. She loved gardening and taking walks, as she was never known to be still for long. She was married March 16, 1950, to Don C. "Buck" Buchanan, and he survives at their home. She also is survived by two sons, Monte Buchanan and his wife, Linda, of Harrisville and Dallas Buchanan and his wife, Cree, of Clintonville. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Wade, Rodney, Cody, Jamie and Amanda Buchanan; two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Rylie; and a great-granddaughter expected in September 2010. A sister, Lucy McFadden and her husband, Dave, of Texas, also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Cooke; a sister, Lydia Reeder; and a daughter, Donna Buchanan. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Jamison Funeral Home, 117 N. Main St. , Harrisville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. David L. Johnson of the First Baptist Church of Grove City officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.
