Allen K. Frye, age 66 of Penn Hills, passed away Thursday August 11, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh. Allen was born on March 8, 1950 in Lewistown to Jack Frye and Joan Spaide, they survive.
Allen entered the US Marine Corps in 1968 and served in the Vietnam conflict. During his time in the service he earned three purple hearts, the national defense service medal, the Vietnamese service medal, the Vietnamese campaign medal, a combat action ribbon, and a good conduct medal. After service overseas Allen became part of the presidential guard having earned the rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Frye was a member of the Barkeyville United Methodist Church as well as a lifetime member of The Disabled American Veterans. He loved to hunt, fish, and to do anything outdoors as well as woodworking, building, and painting. He was a self-proclaimed "NASCAR nut" and would attend the race in Las Vegas yearly to cheer on his favorite racer, Jimmie Johnson. Allen also loved to travel particularly to Mexico.
In addition to his parents, Allen is survived by Sharone Walter of Penn Hills, a son Allen "Sonny" Frye, Jr. of New Castle, three daughters Dawn Frye of Lewistown, Kelli Hovis and her husband Aaron of Emlenton and Melissa Servello and her husband Nino of Murraysville, two brothers Harvey Frye and his wife Marilyn, Scott Frye and his wife, three sisters Angie Plantz and her husband Mark, Paula Vicars and her husband Dave, and Diane Berube and her husband Todd, his step-mother Dorothy Frye, eight grandchildren Vincent Royer and Lily Frye, Bobby, Danielle, and Andrew Hovis and Vincent, Dom, and Anthony Servello.
He was preceded in death by his step-father Alvin Secrest.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jamison Funeral Home, Inc. where friends and family are welcome on Tuesday from 3 pm until 6 pm. A service will be held at 6:30 at the funeral home with the Reverend Ken Hughes, pastor of Barkeyville United Methodist Church, officiating. Immediately after the service Allen will receive full military honors.
