Barbara G. Burkhardt

Barbara G. Burkhardt, 87, of Franklin, passed away at The Caring Place on Wednesday January 2, 2019 at 9:45 A.M.

A daughter of the late Frank and Irene Huff Gibbons, she was born in Franklin on February 2, 1931.

She was a graduate of Franklin High School and was employed for many years in retail clothing sales.

A member of First Baptist Church, she served as an Awana Aid and on the social committee and Diaconate where she was a chairperson many times. In her earlier years, Mrs. Burkhardt was active in the March of Dimes, Easter Seals and was a primary advocate for establishing special classes for children with learning disabilities.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and spending time with friends and family, especially with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On March 25, 1951 she married Chester G. Burkhardt and he preceded her in death on March 1, 2001.

Surviving are four children; Michael B. Burkhardt of Franklin, Brenda R. Burkhardt Gibbons of North East, Douglas G. Burkhardt and his wife Alida of Cooperstown, and Stephen C. Burkhardt of Franklin; three grandchildren, Brian Burkhardt, Keith Burkhardt, and Matthew Gibbons; two foster grandchildren; Julian Seymour and Robert Smith; a sister, Judy Spilko and a brother, Pat Gibbons.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Markus Gibbons and a brother, Frank Gibbons.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff - Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin where family and friends are welcome from 12:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. Sunday.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday at the First Baptist Church 1041 Liberty St, Franklin, PA 16323 with Rev. Randy Powell, Church Pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
