Barbara S. Heckathorne, 63 of Franklin passed away unexpectedly on Saturday August 20, 2016 at her residence.
Born July 18, 1953 in Franklin, she was a daughter of Helen Kennedy Smith and the late Paul Smith.
She was a 1972 graduate of Franklin High School and earned her Associates Degree in nursing from Clarion University where she was salutatorian of her class.
Barb worked for over 17 years at UPMC Northwest and at the former Franklin Hospital.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband, horses and Native American Culture. She was a Franklin High School Majorette and was a fire baton twirler. Family was everything to Barb and she loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, attending all of their events over the years. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Barb's life was her beloved husband John. They have been together since their early teenage years and were married on January 6, 1973. Over their 43 years of marriage, they have traveled extensively to the beach with their family, Gettysburg, the west coast and they celebrated their 30th anniversary with a trip to Alaska in 2003.
In addition to her mother Helen Smith, surviving are two children; John P. Heckathorne and his wife Ellisa of Franklin; Cory Heckathorne and his wife Christine of Franklin; five grandchildren, Megan, Jonah, Katelyn, Karis, and Erin Heckathorne all of Franklin; five brothers and sisters, Ken Smith and his wife Darla, Roger Smith and his wife Denise, Kristy Smith, Steve Smith and his wife Lisa and Shelly Miller and her husband Rick.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin where family and friends are welcome from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. Thursday.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gary Atkinson, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be made at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
