Benjamin Glenn Andrews, 64, of Polk, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, September 15, 2024, after an incredibly brave and hard fought battle with cancer. A battle that he faced head-on with endless courage and grace, never once complaining about his situation.
Ben was born in Mercer on Wednesday, January 13, 1960. He was the eldest child and first son of the late Eugene Glenn Andrews and Ruth Elizabeth Andrews (Graham), also of Polk. He married the former Leigh Ann “Tweet” Welton on Saturday, June 23, 1990. Together they shared 43 years of love and laughs, and she stayed by his side, in sickness and in health, fulfilling her oath until the very end.
He graduated from Franklin Junior/Senior High School, Class of 1978. Upon graduation, Ben went to trade school before joining Skyline Electric, of Clintonville, where he found his true calling: being the world’s greatest electrician. He was then hired by his good friend and future brother-in-law, Bob Wilson, to work for the fledgling Wilson Electric. Over the better part of the next three decades, he continued to build both his electrician and his personnel management skills as he moved from technician to foreman. This led to his greatest and ultimate venture: striking out on his own to found Andrews Contracting. If you knew Ben, and you knew Andrews Contracting, then you already know the level of work was world-class. He believed that “how you do anything is how you do everything” and thus, not a corner was cut. Never once. Andrews Contracting continued to thrive until Ben was forced to put down his tools and focus on his greater challenges.
Through the years, a deep love of hunting and the outdoors kept him and his close friends connected in a way that few friend groups can rival. Dan Morgan, Joe Ferringer, Jack Ferringer, Steve Simons, and his brother, Rick Andrews, shared countless (and the wives were counting) hours in the woods hunting anything and everything that was in season. Between those times, laughs and stories were matched only by the amount of food and dessert at their legendary game dinners. This core group of friends continued to put a hunting rifle in his hands until some of his very last days; and for that he was, and will be, forever grateful.
Ben is survived by his wife Tweet, of Polk; his son Cody Andrews, of Franklin; his brother Rick Andrews, of Utica; his sister Sheryl Wilson and her husband Bob, of Jackson Center; and his sister Shawn Heller, of Stoneboro. Along with literally countless family and friends who loved him more than could ever be put to words.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his Uncle Dale, and several other close family members, all of whom he loved dearly.
