Beryle Lee “Skip” Johnston

Beryle was born on March 24^th, 1936 to the late Harry D. and Thelma Marie (Henry) Johnston.

Beryle worked in the grocery store business for 52 years.  He began his career at the old A&P on Otter Street when he was in high school.  Following the closing of the franchise in 1983, Beryle worked for the Shop ‘N Save and Giant Eagle supermarkets in Oil City.

Beryle proudly served in the 28^th Division, Pennsylvania National Guard, achieving the rank of Spec 5.

Aviation was always an important part of Skip’s life.  He was an accomplished model airplane enthusiast, building and flying control-line airplanes.  Skip would go on to earn his pilot’s license and spend many hours with his friends at Franklin’s Chess Lamberton Airport.  He was always proud of teaching his wife and children how to fly in his Cessna 150.

Beryle was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and always enjoyed Wednesday Bible Study with his friends.

Beryle married Myrna Suzanne Barrett on Christmas Day, 1964.  The couple has enjoyed over 57 years of marriage together.

In addition to his wife, Beryle is survived by his children and their families; Steve, his wife Tracie, and their children Alex and Sammie of Franklin, and Walter, his wile Elke, and their children Tim and Luke of Oftershein, Germany.

Beryle was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Allen, Donald, David and Paul Johnston.

The family would like to sincerely thank all of the staff at The Caring Place in Franklin for everything that they have done for Beryle and the rest of the Johnston Family.  Words cannot express how thankful we are for all of you.

Friends and family will be received on Monday, July 31st, at the Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park Street, Franklin, from 5pm to 8pm.  

Services will be held on Tuesday, August 1st, at the chapel of The Caring Place, 103 North 13^th Street, Franklin, beginning at 10am.

Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery.
