Daniel Edward Patterson

November 23, 1985 — May 30, 2023

Altoona, PA

Daniel Edward Patterson, 37, passed away Tuesday, May 30, in Altoona, following a 15-year battle with Crohn’s Disease.

He was born in Pittsburgh on November 23, 1985. He graduated from Chestnut Ridge High School in New Paris in 2004, briefly attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, then earned a CNA in Greensburg and completed the coursework for an LPN at the BOCES School of Practical Nursing in Jamestown, NY.

On May 3, 2009, Dan was married to JaQuia Lynn and they share a son Ayzion DeAire Patterson, who both survive. He is also survived by his life partner of the last ten years Shay Johnson and her two daughters Te’ara and Tajha, as well as his parents Edward and Rebecca (Husted) Patterson, his siblings Brittany Patterson and her son Korbin, Kevin Patterson and his children Samantha, Conner and KJ, Bethany (Steve) Harry and their daughters Rachel and Emily, and Alex (Moncsi) Cooke and their children Sam and Lily, his sister-in-law Pooh/Lashawn Robinson and her three children Tyteana, Raekwon, and Shylenn, and other nieces, nephews and cousins.

From the time he was a child, Dan loved fishing. He as well as his siblings would fish at their grandparents’ house near Chautauqua, NY, amongst other places. Once Ayzion was born, Dan couldn’t wait to take him fishing, an interest they shared together as father and son for years. Dan played Little League and American Legion League baseball and high school basketball and played trumpet in symphonic and jazz bands. As a teenager, he went on a work trip to Zimbabwe, Africa, where he helped construct staff residences at Africa University and went bungee jumping at Victoria Falls. Following several years as a nurse’s aide and a year as caregiver for his grandfather, he worked in construction. Dan loved being around his nieces and nephews during holidays, playing cards, and cracking jokes. He always made everyone around him laugh. He shared many memories with his two closest friends Whitney Harr and Allen Mowrey. Dan will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
