Daryl W. Mawhinney, 82, of Polk died at 8:59 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at UPMC Northwest, Seneca.
A son of Lawrence and Irene Gilliland Mawhinney he was born in Polk on May 10, 1930.
He was a 1949 graduate of Franklin High School.
A veteran of the Korean War he served with the U.S. Marines from 1952 until 1954.
Mr. Mawhinney was employed by C.P.T. in Franklin until being transferred to Georgia. He later worked for Ingersoll Rand in Georgia before retiring and returning to Polk where he resided in the family home where he had been born.
He was a member of the Polk Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Myrtle Lodge #316 F&AM. Daryl enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, reading and watching tv.
On September 26, 1951 he married the former June Warrington, who survives along with three daughters Debora Perry and her husband David of Woodstock, GA, Denise Smith and her husband Roger of Franklin and Darlene Reece and her husband Ken of Crossville, TN; 4 grandchildren Kevin Smith and his wife Jamie of Polk, Matthew Smith of Franklin, Elizabeth Dickson and her husband James of Atlanta, GA and Emily Perry of Milledgeville, GA; and a great grandson Declan Daniel Smith of Polk. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law Henry Warrington and his wife Rose of Cooperstown and Fred Warrington and his wife Peg of Polk and two sisters-in-law Hester Smith of Franklin and Patricia Feltenberger of Polk.
He was preceded in death by a brother Paul L. Mawhinney and a sister Evelyn J. Guetens.
There will be no public visitation.
Memorial services will be held in the Polk Presbyterian Church, 729 Main Street, Polk at 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Diane Whitman, pastor of the church officiating.
