Donald C. Carey, 82, of 448 Route 36, Tionesta went to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his loving family at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday June 6, 2012 in his home.
A son of Vance and Clara Crawford Carey he was born in Franklin on December 27, 1929. He attended the Franklin public schools until enlisting in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of both the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam War.
Following his discharge he maintained a Schwan?s delivery route. He later became an agent for the American general Life Insurance Company.
He was a member of the Oil City Community Alliance Church and the Tionesta Alliance Church. A family man he enjoyed family activities such as camping, picnics, bowling and playing pinochle. He maintaied gardens both vegetable and flower, and enjoyed many home improvement projects. He was a member of Promise Keepers.
On January 4, 1952 he married the former Bernetta D. Schultz whom he met while roller skating. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She survives along with 4 daughters Bernetta Buckley and her husband Wayne of StDonald C. Palm, FL, Becky Harrison and Chris Buckley of Stoneboro, Jami Earnest and her husband Kirk of Lewistown and Nicki Jeffries of Tionesta and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters June Clark of Rocky Grove and Anna Greene of Rockland and a brother Bill Carey of Cooperstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Linda Charlotte Carey and a brother Jay Carey
Friends will be received in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St. from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held in the Oil City Community Alliance Church, 411 Seneca St., Oil City at 11 a.m. Saturday following an hour of visitation at the church. Pastors James Evilsizor and Terry Truffin will officiate.
Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
Interment will follow in Old Sandy Cemetery.
