Douglas B. Ostergard

Douglas B. "Doug" Ostergard, 81 of Franklin, passed away at his home on April 4, 2017 at 12:15 pm surrounded by his loving family. Doug was born on January 3, 1936 in Warren to the late Gerould and Mildred Jefferson Ostergard.

Doug was a 1953 graduate of Warren High School and the New York State Ranger School. He worked as a forester for Hammermill and then later on at International Paper until his retirement in 1998. He married the former Evelyn Wittenburg on November 30, 1957 in Erie, she survives.

Doug loved woodworking and camping. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years in Erie and Pleasantville as well as a 4H Leader for the Gauchos in Warren County and for a group in Forest County. He was a member of the Shelby Mustang Club, the Lake Erie Mustang Owners Club, the Society of American Foresters, and the Over The Hill Gang. Doug was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Franklin.

In addition to his wife, Doug is survived by three children, Cynthia Muir and her husband Kevin of Centerville, Christian Ostergard and his wife Kaylynn of Erie, and Jeremy Ostergard and his wife Tammy of Franklin, eight grandchildren, Sabrina Davenport and her fiancé Chuck Tucker of Titusville, Kyle Davenport and his wife Crystal of Pleasantville, Tyler Muir of Centerville, Allisha Muir and her companion Kevin Winans of Centerville, Tristan, Garrett, Megan, and Kenzie Ostergard all of Franklin, five great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, and a brother, Pete Ostergard and his wife Marilyn of Spotsylvania, VA.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 312 W. Park St., Franklin.

Family and friends are welcome on Friday, April 7, at The First United Methodist Church, 1102 Liberty St., Franklin from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am with the Reverend Jeff Little, church pastor, officiating.
