Elizabeth A. Black "Betty", 68 of Cranberry, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 18, 2017 after a battle with cancer.
Born February 15, 1949 in Franklin, she was a daughter of the late Edgar Paul and Ruth Lynam Hazelton.
She was a 1967 graduate of Rocky Grove High School.
Betty worked at Polk Center for a number years. On September 1, 1984 she married James R. Black Jr., and they moved to Florida where they opened their own successful business. Later they returned to Franklin to be with their family. She worked at Sheetz and Miller Equipment until her retirement. After taking a few years off, she missed being around people so she went to work at Red Express in Cranberry retiring from there in 2016.
She was a faithful member of St. Patrick Church in Franklin. Those who were fortunate enough to know her, would agree that she was an amazing, caring, loving, passionate person who would always put the needs of others before those of her own.
Betty enjoyed ceramics, flower gardening, vegetable canning, and was an avid reader; however, above everything spending time with her family was most important. She looked forward to monthly gatherings for card club where they played California Jack. She also looked forward to Hazelton's yearly family reunions.
Surviving are four children; Patrick D. Mullen of Cranberry, Jeffery W. Mullen (Stephanie) of Titusville, James R. Black III (Christine) of Pittsburgh and Sindora M. Warren (William) of Pittsburgh; three sisters, Georgia May Keas "Punk", Helen Young "Button" and Virginia Atnip "Susie"; two brothers, David Hazelton and Fred Hazelton.

A poem by Betty - You are stronger than you think you are, If you don't like the person or the choices you made in the past - be determined to be a better person and make better choices in the future. You were a good person and are trying to be an even better person now. What happened in the past you cannot change - "take ownership" of your part of things and show how other people influenced your actions. Don't beat yourself up for what you've done - move past - be better. You are you - not what other people say you are.
