Emily Jane Allen

Emily Jane Allen (née Reed), of Franklin passed away at home surrounded by her family on September 8, 2024, at the age of 85. 

Born on December 4, 1938, she was the daughter of Milton and Dorothy Reed.

She graduated from Franklin High School in 1956. She worked at Chicago Pneumatic Tool before starting her family.

On April 24, 1965, she married her husband of 59 years, William Allen. Other than 18 years she and Bill lived in North Carolina, she spent her life on Bully Hill.

Jane was known for her great sense of humor and her kind, caring, and helpful nature. She had a great love for music and enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, baking, and singing. 

She was a lifelong member of East Grove United Methodist Church on Bully Hill, where she loved to sing in the choir, taught Sunday School, and participated in many other church activities.

She is survived by husband William, her sons Steven Allen (Michelle) of Franklin and David Allen of Greensboro, North Carolina, seven grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving her are her brother Donald Reed and his wife, Dona Reed, and a sister-in-law Bonnie Reed. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Marian Joan Smith and Marjorie Meadows; and brothers, William Reed, Harold "Burt” Reed, and Paul "Pete" Reed.

Funeral arrangements entrusted Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. where family and friends are welcome from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Drew Bell, officiating.

Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
