Frederic P. MacKenzie, age 83, died early Sunday morning, June 9, 2013 at Regency Heights Healthcare Center, Willimantic, CT after a long illness.
He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 30, 1930 the son of Fred M. MacKenzie and Sarah C. (Olson) MacKenzie, who before their deaths resided in Willimantic as well.
From 1934 to 1942, he lived in Franklin, PA among his many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He moved to Buffalo with his family in 1942 and received his education there and a B.A. Degree in American Studies at University of Buffalo.
In subsequent years, he worked in library, healthcare and social service positions.
He was a great nature enthusiast and loved camping in state and national parks around the country.
Fred also particularly enjoyed movies, sports, drawing and classical music.
He is survived by his sister and brother in law, Carol A. and Harold J. Abramson of Mansfield Center, CT; his nephews Daniel B. Abramson and his wife Cindy Hao of Seattle, WA and David M. Abramson and his wife Kelly Hand of Washington, DC; and three great nieces, Rachel Hao Abramson, Hazel Abramson Hand and Daisy Abramson Hand.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday June 15, 2013 at St. John Episcopal Church, 1145 Buffalo St. Franklin, with the Rev. Holly A. Davis, Rector, Officiating.
Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery.
