Gail H. Marwood, 85 of 1109 Elk St., Franklin died Wednesday afternoon, April 22, 2009 in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born in Franklin on May 23, 1922 a son of James and Mary Pew Marwood. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1940. He served with the U.S. Air Force during WWII as a crew chief and navigator. Mr. Marwood was employed as a machinist at the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company for 27 years and after retiring from there he went to work as a machinist for Anderson Metal Industries Inc. Pittsburgh Road in Franklin, retiring from there after several years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Franklin. He was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was very active in the Venango Toymakers. Mr. Marwood was well known as an artist for his oil paintings. On March 22, 1947 he married the former Elizabeth Rowan who died September 22, 1994. He then married Thelma McCoy Marwood on October 14, 1995 and she died November 12, 2008. Surviving are a daughter Sue Hilton of Franklin; a son Steve Marwood and his wife Rita of Linesville; step-son Gary McCoy of Meadville and a step-daughter Rebecca McCoy Davis of Grove City; six grandchildren Beth Friedman and her husband Chris of Chippewa Township, Eric Hilton of Seattle, WA, Michael Hilton and his fianc�� Angela Elliston of Pittsburgh, Sara Hilton of Morgantown, WV, Brad Marwood and his wife Kortney of Mechanicsburg and Tyler Marwood of Beaver Falls and five step-grandchildren Aaron Davis, Ben Davis and his wife Ann, and Andrea Davis all of Grove City, Meghan McCoy of Conneaut lake and Katie McCoy-Harris and her husband Randy of Wilmington, NC. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren Lauren, Emily, and Matthew Davis of Grove City, Moravia Beach of Franklin and Evan Harris of Wilmington, NC; two sisters Phyllis Krepp and Virginia Nichols both of Tuscaloosa, AL; a brother-in-law Philip Rowan and his wife Millie of Jacksonville, FL and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wives he was preceded in death by an infant daughter Connie Marwood and two brothers-in-law James Krepp and Wayne Nichols. Friends will be received in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St. Franklin from 7-9 p.m. Friday and from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Arthur Barnes, pastor of the Linesville First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. His family has suggested memorial donations be made to Venango Toymakers, Attn. Gene Gibbs, 191 Howard St., Franklin PA 16323.
