George H. Dean, 88, of 190 Red Bridge Lane, Franklin died at 1:10 p.m. Friday April 2, 2010 at Sugar Creek Station.
A son of Rubin R. and Violet S. Harkless Dean he was born in Cecil Township, Washington County on December 11, 1921. He attended the Franklin public schools.
A veteran of World War II he served in the US Army in the African Theatre and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the VFW Post 185 of Franklin.
Mr. Dean was employed at Franklin Steel as a janitor. He had 38 years of service at the time of his retirement in 1983.
He enjoyed dancing in his earlier years and walking his dog.
Surviving are his wife the former Elizabeth Jolley whom he married June 7, 1988, two sons Reuben Dean of Erie and George Dean Jr. of Sharon, three step-children Ken Stewart and his wife Opal and Sterling lee Stewart all of Franklin and Mandy Mushrush and her husband Bryan of Meadville, two grandchildren Heidi Moore and her husband Brian of Harrisville and Nicole Stewart of Franklin. A sister Rose Chronigln and her husband Jim of Lanham, MD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Art Dean and a granddaughter Elizabeth Rose Stewart.
Friends will be received in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Ed Gresick, pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will follow in Sunset Hill memorial Gardens.
