Gerald L. "Gerry" Garris, 77, of Franklin, passed away expectedly shortly after his arrival at UPMC Northwest in Seneca on Sunday, June 23, 2019.
Born in Irwin Twp., Venango County, he was a son of the late Chester and May Carothers Garris.
Gerry was the last graduating class of Victory Joint High School in 1959.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1961-1965. He was a Boilerman 3rd Class serving aboard the USS Essex.
Gerry enjoyed old cars and attending various car shows. He was an avid racing fan. He loved to read and could read a book in a few hours and tell you everything about it.
Gerry was known as a good storyteller and could always be found visiting and talking with people at Sander's Market and King's Family Restaurant.
In 1972 he married the former Barbara Burk and she survives.
Also surviving are three children, Tami Baker, and her partner, Bub Hadden, of Franklin, Bob Garris and his wife Lisa of Franklin and Tricia Ramfos and her husband Ryan of Franklin; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Sibble, Cody Sibble, Brandon Sibble, Jennifer Moon and her husband Mike, Jeffrey Fink, Jocelyn Garris, Chelsea Garris, Tyler Ramfos, Emilee Ramfos, and Isabella "Izzy" Ramfos and numerous great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are three siblings; Dick Garris and his wife Sally, Myrna Pease and Debra Best and her husband LeRoy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Daniel R. "BanDANa" Garris; brother-in-law, Tim Phelan; great-grandson, Gage Fink and a niece Jamie Jacoby.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff - Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin where family and friends are welcome from 4:00 - 6:45 P.M. Wednesday.
A funeral service will follow at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gene Lenk, officiating.
Military honors will be rendered by the V.E.T.S Honor Guard in the funeral home chapel at the conclusion of the funeral service.
Interment will be made in Franklin Cemetery.
