Harriet ?Hat? Kerr Daye, 83 of Polk, beloved wife of Harry T. Daye, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday June 9, 2012 after a short battle with Cancer.
Harriet was married to Harry on February 26, 1954. They were married for 58 joyous years.
Harriet was born in Pittsburgh on July 22, 1928. She graduated from Westinghouse High School. Following her high school graduation she went on to receive her Bachelor?s degree from Chatham College and continued on to receive a Master?s degree and supervisory certificate from Clarion University.
Harriet worked as a teacher and supervisor of Special Education for various agencies including Polk Center and Riverview Intermediate Unit #6, where she worked for over 30 years.
Her passion was teaching children with special needs, a vocation she believed to be the most important in the world.
A long-time member of the Polk Presbyterian Church, Harriet served as an elder, trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group Director and Vacation Bible School Director. She also sang in the choir and was a member of the Women?s Association for many years.
Civic duties included serving on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross, Polk Center and Ocean Resorts Co-op. Harriet volunteered at DeBence Music Museum, the Venango County Historical Society, Polk Center, the Franklin Area School District, and Meals on Wheels. She also served as a brownie and Girl Scout Leader.
Memberships included the Franklin Lioness Club (disbanded), Order of Eastern Star, Honorary Life Member of PA Congress of Parents and Teachers, Franklin ? Oil City Zonta Club and Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary.
Besides Harriet?s love for children and passion for teaching, she enjoyed spending time with her family and being her husband?s best friend in all of their life experiences.
She loved fishing, camping, and traveling with all of her family members. She also dearly loved her friends at Ocean Resorts and their Florida winter home for the past 25 years.
Harriet is survived by her husband Harry, and her children Harry Alan Daye and his wife Lillian of Surprise, AZ, Samuel Kerr Daye and his wife Angel of Polk, PA, and Barbara Jeanne Goodman and her husband Joe of Freeport, PA.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Lara Robertson and Michael Daye of Superize, AZ, Alisha Hazelett of Natrona Heights, PA, Samantha Eakin of Titusville, PA, Tate Daye of Polk, PA, who lovingly referred to Harriet as Lolly, Kristie Zimmerman of North Apollo, PA, Sarah Vivan of Leechburg, PA; and her great ? grandchildren Taytum and Michael Daye, Helena Zimmerman and Wyatt Vivian.
Harriet is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Ester Kerr and Sisters Esther Gray and Marian Kerr.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 ? 4:00 & 6:00 ? 8:00 P.M. at Huff Chapel Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Polk Presbyterian Church 729 Main St. Polk, with Rev. Diane Whitman, Pastor of Polk Presbyterian Church and Rev. John Hamilton of the Bethany Presbyterian Church will be officiating.
Harriet?s family wishes to express their gratitude to everyone for the outpouring of love and prayers during her illness.
