Harry Truman Daye, 85 of Polk, beloved husband and father, passed away Saturday, March 8, after a two-year battle with cancer.
Harry was born in Polk on April 21, 1928. He graduated from Franklin High School and joined the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Polk Center for 35 years before retiring from his Maintenance Supervisor position. Harry, an electrician by trade, is credited with wiring almost every house in Polk at one time or another.
After retiring, Harry and his late wife, Harriet, continued living in Polk through the summers but spent their winters at Ocean Resorts in Fort Pierce, FL. They traveled frequently, often meeting up with their children in various locations such as Germany, Alaska, Mexico and Hawaii.
A life-long member of Polk Presbyterian Church, Harry served as an elder and trustee. He also served as a volunteer fire fighter and ambulance driver in Polk for many years.
An avid outdoorsman, Harry was found most often in the woods hunting for deer and turkey or on local lakes and streams fishing for walleye, crappie and trout. Harry went on many memorable fishing trips to Canada with his family and with his buddies.
Harry was a Past Master of Myrtle Lodge No. 316 F&AM, a member of the KB's, the New Castle Scottish Rite, and the Zem Zem Shriners in of Erie, PA. Harry was also a member of the Franklin Elks Club and the National Rifle Association.
Harry is preceded in death by his wife, Harriet, his parents, Harry and Barbara (Tate) Daye, his brothers Paul, Clair and Gifford, and his sisters, Finetta Finley and Helen Snyder.
Harry is survived by his children Harry Alan Daye and his wife, Lillian, of Surprise, AZ, Samuel Kerr Daye and his wife, Angel, of Polk, PA, and Barbara Jeanne Goodman and her husband, Joe, of Freeport, PA.
He is also survived by his sister, Barbara (Bobby) Clifford of Allentown, his grandchildren Lara Robertson and Michael Daye of Surprise, AZ, Alisha Hazelett of Swissvale, PA, Samantha (Seth) Pattison of Titusville, PA, Tate Daye of Polk, PA, Kristie (Mark) Zimmerman of Apollo, PA, and Sarah (Justin) Vivian of Leechburg, PA; and his great-grandchildren Taytum and Michael Daye, Helena Zimmerman, and Wyatt, Gabriel and Adelyn-Rose Vivian.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday at the Polk Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM. Diane Whitman, Pastor of Polk Presbyterian Church, and Rev. John Hamilton of the Bethany Presbyterian Church will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM at Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 W. Park St., Franklin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Erie.
Harry's family wishes to express their gratitude to everyone for the outpouring of love and prayers during his illness.
