Helen Hill

Helen B. Hill, 91, of 205 Big Oak Drive, Franklin died at 10 a.m. Sunday April 17, 2011 at The Caring Place.

A daughter of C. Coe and Edna Grace Selby Byers she was born on august 8, 1919 in West Middlesex. She was in a graduating class of 35 students at West Middlesex High School in 1937. As a young girl she spent many summers tenting with her family on Canadohta Lake.

For 13 years she was an occupational therapist at the Barbian Unit of Sharon General Hospital.

Mrs. Hill became a member of the West Middlesex Methodist Church at the age of 11 and remained an active member for over 60 years. She taught Sunday School and served on many church committees. Past president and recording secretary of the Women?s Society of Christian Service she received the Methodist Church Union?s Annual Churchman of the Year Award in 1964.
She was a member of the Julia F. Buhl Club in Sharon where she taught knitting and served as a Girl Scout leader. For many years her family maintained a camp in Kellettville and wintered in Fort Myers, FL. She enjoyed painting, sewing and wood carving. She had been a member of the Polk Quilting Bee for several years.

She moved to Franklin with her husband in 1993. While in Franklin she attended Christ United Methodist Church and the Ambassadors Sunday School Class.
On July 23, 1939 she married Robert Dickson Hill following the conclusion of the Sunday worship service in the West Middlesex Methodist Church. He died October 29, 1998.

Surviving are two sons David B. Hill and his wife Patricia of West Middlesex and Thomas E. Hill and his wife Gwen of Franklin; 5 grandchildren Christopher D. Hill and his wife Tina of Jamestown, Charles G. Hill of Butler, MO, John R. Hill and his wife Missy of Jamestown, Commander Matthew P. Hill USN and his wife Amanda of Brussels, Belgium, and Christy Barnett and her husband Daniel of Erie. Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren Ryan Hill and Joshua Hill both of Jamestown, Kelsey, Lauren and Tucker Barnett all of Erie and Adeline, Estella, Emory and Arleigh Hill all of Brussels, Belgium.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Byers.

Friends will be received in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held in the Christ United Methodist Church, 1135 Buffalo Street, Franklin at 11 a.m. Thursday with Rev. David Janz officiating.

Interment will follow in Haywood Cemetery, West Middlesex.
