Herman "Herb" Aponte, 71, of Franklin passed away on September 16, 2019 at his residence.
He was born on April 29, 1948 in Miami, FL. He was adopted by Herminio Aponte and Aida Esther Melendez Rodriguez. Manuel Rodriguez was later his step-dad who Herb considered to be a "father figure".
Herb proudly served his country by joining the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War era, following his time in the military he served in law enforcement for 48 years. In his free time he enjoyed photography, kayaking, shooting his pistol, playing poker, watching WWII and political documentaries, listening to spiritual music, reading his Bible, and mystery and adventure books. Herb also loved going on vacations in the Caribbean.
Herb is survived by three children: Douglas Herman Aponte, of Lawrenceville, GA, Marcus Darniel Aponte, of Las Vegas, NV and Ana Lisa Hartman, of Braselton, GA; six grandchildren: Samantha Aponte, of Miami, FL, Taylor Hartman, of Seattle, WA, Megan Hartman, of Braselton, GA, Alana Hartman, of Braselton, GA, Mia Aponte, of Lawrenceville, GA, MaKayla Aponte, of Lawrenceville, GA; a sister: Millie Diaz, of Davie, FL.
In addition to his parents, Herb is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Labra.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 312 W. Park Street, Franklin. There will be no visitation or public service per his wishes.
