Herman J. Barnes Jr. of Titusville passed away peacefully in his sleep at 9:50 pm Friday November 9, 2012 at the Presbyterian Home, Oil City.
A son of Herman J. Barnes Sr and Irene Barnes Hollabaugh he was born in Polk on May 8, 1930. He was a 1951 graduate of Franklin high School.
Following his graduation he enlisted in the US Navy. A veteran of the Korean War he served aboard the USS Kimberly DD521 as a boiler technician.
Herman had worked at the Amalie Refinery in Franklin and then worked as an electrical foreman at Pennzoil Refinery in Rouseville.
He enjoyed hunting small game with his children and his beagles Pebbles and Bam Bam. He also enjoyed playing cards, working bingo and helping others with a helping hand.
He was a member of the Franklin American Legion and was a life member of the Franklin VFW. Herman had held offices in both organizations.
On June 24, 1959 he married Hazel Marie Wise. She preceded him in death on September 11 of this year.
Surviving are two daughters Carolyn Walker of Gibsonville, NC and Sandy Grzasko and her husband Stan of Oil City; four sons David Barnes and his wife Linda of Inverness, FL, Charles Barnes and his wife Pam of Oil City, Robert and his wife Cindy of Schenectady, NY and Douglas Barnes of Burlington, NC and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife he was preceded in death by a sister Sarah Haun.
As Mr. Barnes wished his body was cremated with no public visitation. Arrangements were entrusted to Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc.
Memorial services will be held at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Military honors will be rendered by V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of the Oil City Presbyterian Home for the superior care given their parents.
