Iris S. (Saylor) Hackathorn

Iris S. Hackathorn, 88, of Slippery Rock died at 6:00 a.m. Monday July 29, 2013 at Grove Manor, Grove City. A daughter of Clair L. and Helen M. Burdick Saylor she was born in Hillards on June 21, 1925.��Iris was a 1942 graduate of Butler High School. She retired in 1985 after 8 years as an administrative assistant at the Butler VA.��Previously she had worked underground at Boyers and at the Bashline Hospital. Mrs. Hackathorn had been an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Grove City where she sang in the choir and was involved in their outreach programs.��She enjoyed solving jig saw puzzles, embroidering and caring for her dogs. On December 30, 1969 she married Clarence E. "Jake" Hackathorn.��He died on October 12, 1977. Surviving are a step-son Thomas A. Hackathorn of Los Angeles, CA, 2 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.��Several nieces and nephews complete her family. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Friends will be received in the Jamison Funeral Home, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.��Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Willard S. Morse, pastor of visitation at Grace United Methodist Church in Grove City,��officiating. Interment will follow in North Washington Union Cemetery.
