James "Jim" R. Mawhinney

James "Jim" R. Mawhinney, 77, of Rocky Grove passed away September 29, 2018 at Southwoods Assisted Living in Titusville.

Born August 14, 1941 in Franklin to Bill and Marion Mawhinney, Jim was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School.

He married Sonja "Sonnie" Mong on May 26, 1967 and she preceded him in death on August 2, 2007.

He was employed by Amalie Refinery until 1970. He then went to work at Joy Manufacturing where he retired after 37 years.

Jim was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Rocky Grove. He was involved in the Venango County 4-H as a leader of the Hot Shots Rifle club and as an active parent volunteer for the 4-H Dazzlers. He enjoyed playing baseball and softball and was an avid Pirates fan. He also enjoyed attending Nascar and dirt track races.

Jim is survived by a daughter, Michele Butkiewicz and husband Frank of Crosby, Texas; two sons, Rusty Mawhinney and his wife Johna, of Bayfield, Colorado, and Benjamin Mawhinney and his wife, Nicole of Cooperstown; sister-in-law Sally Burrows of Bayfield, Colorado and brother-in-law, Thomas Mong and his wife, Sarah, of Brazoria, Texas.

Also surviving are four granddaughters, Kimberly and Carrie Butkiewicz of Crosby, Texas and Elizabeth and Abigail Mawhinney of Cooperstown.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 40 years.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff - Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 W. Park St. Franklin where family and friends are welcome from 1:00 - 3:00 P.M. Tuesday.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with Susan Fuller, longtime family friend, officiating.

Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
