John A. Highfield

John Avery Highfield, 89, of Reno, PA, passed peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Quality Life Services in Grove City, PA where he resided the last 3 years.

Born June 2, 1935 in Oil City, he was the son of Donald and Gertrude Highfield.

John was a graduate of Oil City High School where he met his wife-to-be, Norma Jean Stack. They were married July 3, 1953, first residing in Oil City and later moving to Reno where they raised their family. Norma preceded him in death on April 19, 2018. 

John retired from National Fuel Gas as a mechanic in the garage after 42 years of service. John owned and operated Highfield's Gun Service in Reno and was well known for his quality of work, not only with guns but all he put his mind to. He retired from the gun business in 2001. 

John and Norma enjoyed their retirement at their camp at Lake Wilhelm where they made memories fly fishing, tinkering around camp, and spending quality time with family and friends. 

John is survived by his sons, David (Virginia) of Mercer and Garry (Sharon) of Franklin. Daughter Lori (Ray) Adams of Reno, formerly of Deland, FL. Five grandchildren; Chasidy Highfield and husband Christian Seltrecht, Lisa Snipes and partner Thomas Licata, Cory (Marty) Highfield of Efland, NC, Joseph (Leann) Highfield of Polk, and Ashlee (Jeremy) Montgomery of Grove City. Also left to remember John are twelve great grandchildren ranging in age from 18 to 2.

In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Lou Foust and brother in-law Ronald Foust of Orange City, FL, sister Donna Kay who passed at the age of 8, and a great granddaughter. John was the last survivor of his immediate family. 

Per John's wishes, there will be no viewing. A private memorial service will be held by his family.

John will be laid to rest beside his wife Norma at Brandon Cemetery in Seneca, PA.
