Joyce E. Buchanan, 62, of Fleming Road, Grove City, went home to be with her savior at 10:02 a.m. Monday at UPMC Northwest after a three-year battle with cancer. Born in Shippenville, Sept. 1, 1947, she was a daughter of Jess VanGuilder and Dora (Mier) VanGuilder. She was a 1965 graduate of Keystone High School and a graduate of the Butler Beauty School. Most recently, she was a secretary for the West Unity Community Church. She also had worked at the Grove City Arby's, the Grove City YMCA, the Paper Factory at the Prime Outlets and as a receptionist at Harshaw of Grove City. She was a member of the West Unity Community Church in Marion Township, where she was a Sunday school teacher with the toddlers class and also taught crafts and Bible school Surviving are her husband, Glenn L. Buchanan, who she married June 13, 1969; two daughters, Gwen M. Buchanan of Penn Hills and V. Jean Podralski and her husband, Chris, of Greensburg; a sister, Faye Ganoe and her husband, Bill, of Waynesboro; and a brother, Jesse VanGuilder and his fiancee, Chris, of Shippenville. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James VanGuilder. BUCHANAN - Friends of Joyce E. Buchanan, who died Monday, March 29, 2010, may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Jamison Funeral Home, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the West Unity Community Church, Unity Road, Marion Township, with Pastor Boyd D. Smith, church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Big Springs Cemetery, formerly Rocky Springs Cemetery, Marion Township.
