Julia K. "Judy" Eckel

Julia K. "Judy" Eckel, 93, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Franklin, passed away at 1:25 A.M on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at The Pines of Mt. Lebanon.

She was born on December 3rd, 1930 in Franklin and was the daughter of Late Philip and Ruth Osborne Hanna.

She was a graduate of Franklin High School Class of 1948 and then went on to graduate from Clarion University in 1952.

Julia worked at the Sandy Creek School and 7th Street School as an elementary teacher.

Julia was in the chorus group Sweet Adelines and was an active member of the 7th Street Church of God.

She enjoyed and loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and dog Spunky.

She met her late husband Edward Eckel at a dance hall in Franklin, then went on to marry soon after and had 3 children; Gary Eckel of Seattle, Washington, Kevin Eckel and wife Sonia Eckel of Pittsburgh, and Shari Magee and Bernard Magee of Pittsburgh.

Julia had 6 grandchildren with their spouses, Daniel Eckel and Christina Eckel of Washington D.C, Caleb and Rebecca Eckel of Richmond, VA, Bart and Laura Eckel of Washington, PA, Adam and Louise Eckel of Seattle, WA, Hanna Magee of Pittsburgh, and Maeve Magee of Washington, PA and eight Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin, where family and friends are welcome from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Friday.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will follow at Graham Cemetery.
