Kevin J. Lewis, 55 of Cochranton, a well-known and respected former Franklin Police officer, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and friends at 5:13 P.M. on Thursday August 6, 2015 following a brief battle with cancer.
Born May 23, 1960 in Sharon he was the son of Stanley G. and Beth Lewis and the late Marilyn Marie Jones Lewis.
Kevin was a graduate of Sharon High School.
At the age of 18, Kevin began a career in Public Safety that spanned over 35 years. He started out at Gold Cross Ambulance Service where he worked his way from EMT to Director. During his time at Gold Cross, he also served Crawford County as a constable. He then worked for six months at the Cochranton Police Department before taking a job as a Public Safety Officer for the City of Franklin.
Kevin worked for 26 years at the Franklin Police Department starting in December of 1987, serving as Patrolman, Lieutenant, and retiring as detective. Kevin served in many other capacities for the police department including: field training officer, swat medic, EMT instructor and Events Coordinator for the department. Kevin also served as a minute man firefighter with the City of Franklin Fire Department and a Paramedic with Community Ambulance.
He also served as a member of the PA Attorney General's Drug Task Force, was considered an expert witness in drug investigations, an expert in crime scene photography and was involved in many crucial large scale investigations throughout the region.
Upon retiring from the Franklin Police Department, Kevin worked as a Deputy in the Venango County Sherriff's Department. Even after retiring from law enforcement, Kevin was always called upon for advice. He then went on to the Venango County Technology Center where he was instrumental in starting the protective Service program.
Kevin was a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan and also had a great love for John Wayne movies.
He enjoyed spending time on the river with the "River Rats."
Kevin loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and always enjoyed attending Ben's sporting events. The pride of Kevin's life was his daughter Amanda.
On October 9, 2005, he married the former Jodi Baker, who survives.
Also surviving are four children; Amanda Lewis of Franklin, Amber Baker of Cochranton, Stephanie Kendall and her husband Bud of Cochranton and Ben Baker of Cochranton; three sisters, Shawna Lewis Fedorko and her spouse Linda, Leslie Wingard and her husband Joe and Mary Mitcheltree and her husband Kent; two granddaughters, Aubrie Kendall and Lillian Kendall; his father and mother in law, George and Pat Maxwell; three brothers-in-law, Jon Scott Maxwell, Mike Glaubach and his wife Kim, Howard Glaubach and wife Sarah; four sisters-in-law, Georgia Monserrat and her husband Al, Marie Maxwell Thompson and her husband Pete, Jenny Taylor and her husband Joey, and Julie Glaubach.
Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, his beloved Grandma Fulmer and his best friend and longest love, Mark Baughman.
He was preceded in death by his Mom and grandparents.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. 312 West Park St. Franklin, where family and friends are welcome on Monday from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. Additional visitation will be from Noon - 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Tuesday at Christ United Methodist Church, 1135 Buffalo St. Franklin with Rev. Steve Clulow, Pastor at Cochranton Community Church, officiating. Everyone please meet at the church for the service.
Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery.
