Knealand Roland ?Mike? Wiegel Jr., 80, of 704 Elk Street, Franklin died at 8:08 p.m. Friday June 19, 2009 at his home.
Born August 4, 1928 in Franklin he was the son of Dr. Knealand Roland Wiegel Sr. and Edna Mae Ellis Wiegel.
Mr. Wiegel graduated in 1946 from Franklin High School. He also attended Penn State University Behrend Campus in Erie and Evinrude Winter Workshops in Milwaukee, WI.
On October 11, 1950 he married the former Barbara Jean Snell, who survives.
He was co-owner and operator of Wiegel brothers Marina from 1936 until 1975. He received the Evinrude Outboard Bronze Award for Sales Achievement. He worked in management at Joy Manufacturing Company. He also owned and managed many real estate rental properties in the Franklin area.
He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Wiegel attended the First Unite4d Methodist Church and the East Grove United Methodist Church and was a member of the Allegawes Boat Club, Rainbow Sportsman?s Club, Isaac Walton League, the Franklin Club and the American and Canadian Legions.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, gardening and woodworking. He fished many of the northern lakes above the continental divide. He spent many summers with his family at his cottage located in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons Knealand Roland Wiegel III and his wife Debra L. of Polk and Joel Leroy Wiegel of Franklin; two daughters Jodi M. Erdley and her husband Douglas of Franklin and Joni S. Higgins and her husband Craig of Tamarac, Florida; five grandchildren Julene R. Martin and her husband Steve, Ryan K. Wiegel and his wife Sara, Douglas J. Erdley Jr. and Danielle J. Erdley all of Franklin and Amanda J. Wiegel of North Carolina; and two great-grandchildren Walter ?Stevie? Martin III and Brock J. Martin.
Also surviving are two brothers Richard G. Wiegel and his wife Carol of Franklin and Kirby S. Wiegel and his wife Sylvia of Harrisville; and two sisters Mary Ann Richardson of Franklin and Nancy Jane Gullo of Daytona Beach, Florida.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Janie Lu Wiegel, a brother Robin R. Wiegel and two brothers-in-law Joe Gullo and Bill Richardson.
Friends will be received in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St. from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m Wednesday. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First United Methodist Church, 1100 Liberty Street, Franklin with the Rev. Richard K. Harry officiating.
Interment will follow in Old Sandy Cemetery with military honors provided by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
