Leona E. Metz, 101, formerly of 1101 Elm Street, died at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday November 4, 2009 at The Caring Place.
A daughter of Joseph J. and Elizabeth Shaughnessy End, she was born in Oil City on November 15, 1907. She attended St. Joseph School and Oil City High School.
For several years, Mrs. Metz was employed as the local Register for the Bureau of Vital Records.
She was a member of St. Patrick Church. She had been a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and had been a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed politics and was a member of several card clubs. She was well known in the community of Franklin for her daily walks wearing her blue hat brightening the day for those she met.
On July 9, 1932 she married Leo K. Metz and he died March 6, 1990,
Surviving are two daughters Mrs. Edward H.(Ruth Anne) Culbertson of Franklin and Mrs. James R. (Mary Lee) Collins of Meadville, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son Ronald Lee Metz, five brothers and a sister.
There will be no public visitation.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Monsignor John J. Herbein pastor as the celebrant.
Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. The family has suggested memorial donations be made to St. Patrick Church or St. Patrick Food Pantry both of 949 Liberty Street, Franklin PA 16323.
