Lois A. Best, 77, of West Prairie Street Extension, Harrisville, died at 12.08 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at her residence. She had lived in the area since 1967. Born May 10, 1933, in Sligo, she was the daughter of Grover Shoup and Lettie Slagle Shoup. She graduated in 1951 from Sligo High School. She was a waitress for many restaurants in Barkeyville and also was a bookkeeper for her husband's business, Best Lawn and Garden and Hydrolic Hose of Harrisville. She was a member of Harrisville United Methodist Church. She loved to cook and spend time with her family and she loved her cats. She was married May 1, 1956, to Irwin E. "Gene" Best, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Vicky L. Shaw of Mercer and Vera L. Allen and her husband, Earl, of Slippery Rock; a grandson, Jason Allen and his wife Nicole, of Slippery Rock; and two greatgrandsons, Ezra Allen and Evan Allen. She also is survived by a sister, Isabelle Larmer of Sligo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Lou Lantelme and Virginia Wiser; and a brother, Keith Shoup. Private services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Jamison Funeral Home, 117 N. Main St. Harrisville. Pastor Jeff Harter, the chaplain with Family Hospice Palliative Care, officiated. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Harrisville.
