Lyle G. Urey Sr., 76, of 407 7th Street, died at 12:30 a.m. Friday April 3, 2009 at St. Vincent Medical Center, Erie.
A son of James F. and Stacia Hazlett Urey he was born in Franklin on December 5, 1932. He attended Rockland High School.
A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Urey served as a sergeant in the US Army. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal 2BS, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
A truck driver for over 30 years he most recently drove for Mushroom Transportation.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren particularly watching their sporting events, hunting, fishing, traveling, gambling and woodworking.
On June 26, 1954 he married the former Shirley Foster, who survives along with a son Lyle G. Urey Jr. and his wife Anita of Van; a daughter Debra L. Hesson and her husband James of Polk; four grandchildren Kevin Hesson and Kelley Hesson both of Polk and Alyssa Urey and Dakota Urey both of Van. Also surviving are a sister Maxine Sires of Franklin and two brothers James Urey of Titusville and Frank Urey of El Paso, TX.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a great-grandson Gunner Montgomery, two brothers Robert Urey and William Urey and two sisters Jennie Rodgers and Zeldean Foster.
There will be no public visitation.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Church of God at Seventh Street with Rev. James Leichliter, pastor of the church officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
The family has suggested as a memorial for each person to live each day to its fullest. Memorial donations may be made to Renal Care of Oil City, 6945 US 322, Cranberry PA 16319, Franklin VFW, 603 Liberty Street, Franklin PA 16323, or the Franklin or Cranberry Little League Associations.
