Malcolm E. ?Mac? Newton, 86 of 608 Liberty St. Franklin died at 6:42 P.M. on Sunday September 9, 2012 ay UPMC Northwest in Seneca.
A son of the late Max and Ethel Jordan Newton, he was born in Bolivar, NY on January 8, 1926. He was a graduate of Bolivar Central High School.
He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in the European Theatre as a combat engineer.
Mr. Newton began a 27 year career with the Sherwin Williams Company in 1962 when he began working at the Bradford, PA store. From there he went to South Gate, Michigan and Warren, PA before coming to Franklin in 1969. In 1989 he retired as manager of the Franklin store.
He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Franklin, where he was the recipient of Kiwanian of the Year Award from 1994-1995, a former member of the Otto Township Lions Club of Duke Center, PA, and is a current member of R. S. V. P. in Franklin. He was also a volunteer at the Barrow Civic Theater in Franklin and active at the Fox Street Church of God where he served as an usher and greater.
On April 13, 1952 he married the former Marjorie Starr of Duke Center, PA., she passed away on August 12, 1990. On October 11, 1997 he married Carol A. Baker, she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Deborah Beatty and Mrs. Daniel (Kimberly) Plyler and a son, Jeffery Newton and his companion Cathy Swanson all of Franklin, six grandchildren, Eric Uhl and his wife Christine of Spanaway, WA, Shannon Pfistner and her husband Joe of Abington MD, Jennifer Fonzo and her husband Jeffrey of Franklin, Brett Newton serving in Afghanistan, Taylor Newton and his Fiancé Allison Johnson of Auburn, N.Y. and Kali Reeves, of Atlanta GA.
Also surviving is a step-son, Mark Baker and his companion Traci Hartzell of Rocky Grove, two step-grandchildren, Ashley Ebke of Franklin and Allison Baker of Nebraska, several great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, sisters -in -law Arlene Newton of Ohio and Ardena Starr of Duke Center, PA several nieces and nephews and his special friend and nurse Pam Steiner.
Besides his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Leslie and Wayne Newton, brother-in-law Sidney Starr and a step-son, Brian Baker.
He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Family and friends welcome on Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00 ? 9:00 P.M. at Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. 312 West Park St. Franklin.
Additional visitation will be from 10:00 ? 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday in the funeral home where funeral services will follow at 11:00 with the Rev. Lonny Wolford, Pastor of Fox Street Church of God, officiating. Military services will be rendered by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at McKean Memorial Park in Bradford.
