Marian Jeanette Hoffman, 98, former resident of 1102 Elk Street, Franklin died peacefully with her family at her side on Monday, May 2, 2011 at The Caring Place, where she had lived for the past 1 � years.
A daughter of John G. and Ella Hagerty Hoffman Sr. she was born in Franklin on February 24, 1913. She was a graduate of Franklin High School and Franklin Commercial College. She was the first student in the United Sates to be honored nationally for having perfect attendance through her 12 years of education.
She served in the Civil Air Patrol. She was a founding member and first president of the National Secretaries? Association in Franklin. She was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church and sang in the choir as long as her health permitted. She had served as chairman of the Franklin Frontier Festival for five years. She was a co-founder and Director Emeritus of the Franklin Civic Operetta Association and served on its board and participated in many shows. She was an organizer of the original Venango County Museum Corporation. She had served on the board of the Franklin Hospital. She was active in the community and enjoyed a variety of activities such as the Winifred Tonkin Guild, Venango Vamps (a senior citizen dancing group), bowling at the Franklin Club, and singing with the Choraliers.
Her business career was also long and varied. She was, through the years, employed at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation, Venango County Sesquicentennial Association, Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce, Venango County Museum Corporation, Franklin Retail Association and the Housing Authority of the City of Franklin, where she served as executive director, until her retirement.
Marian is survived by two nieces, Nancy J. Garmong and her husband Victor of Rockland and Paula R. Goodwin and her husband William of Holiday, FL and a nephew Donald G. Rennard and his wife Jaunita of Dunedin, FL. Also surviving are 7 great-nieces and nephews and 11 great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Margaret H. Rennard and a brother John G. Hoffman Jr.
At her request there will be no public viewing. A private family service will be conducted at Huff Chapel on Wednesday May 4, 2011 by the Rev. Linda H. Deeter, chaplain of The Caring Place.
Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery.
