Marlene Laverne Stewart

Marlene Laverne Stewart, 91, of Verland North, previously Polk State Center, Polk PA passed away on July 5, 2023 at Allegheny Health Network Hospital in Wexford, PA.

Born in McKeesport, PA on August 11, 1931, Marlene was the daughter of late Wentworth and Grace Stewart. She was the fourth born in a family of five siblings with one older sister and two older brothers who died in infancy.

Marlene came to live at Polk Center on March 16, 1943, when she was 12 years old. She resided in many buildings and cottages.

Marlene was a sweet and loving woman with a beautiful smile. She enjoyed wearing sunhats and had a fetish for handkerchiefs. She loved vibrant colors, all types of music, (especially sounds of the 50’s), eating snack cakes and cheese curls and community outings of all types.

Marlene was of the Protestant faith and practiced her faith continuously throughout her life at Polk and Verland North for almost 80 years.

Marlene is survived by many friends and caring people who lived with her and helped her at Polk Center and Verland North. Those who knew Marlene are grateful for her and recognize her as a true blessing to all.

All are welcome to honor her from 12:30 to 2:30pm at Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. at 312 West Park Street Franklin, PA 16323 on Thursday July 13, 2023. A Memorial Service with the Reverend Cindy Hill officiating will begin at 1:30pm.

Marlene will be laid to rest at Franklin Cemetery in Franklin, PA.
