Mary Jane Snyder

Mary Jane Snyder, 86, of 445 Gurney Road died at 9:30p.m. Monday, September 7, 2009 at Sugar Creek Station. A daughter of Claude A. and Nina Betts Downey she was born in Tiffin, Ohio on July 1, 1923. She attended elementary school in Tiffin and graduated from West Lake Junior High School and University High School in Oakland, California. She then attended Heald Business School in Oakland. During World War II she worked for U.S. Manpower Agency in California. Mrs. Snyder was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Franklin. She was a 50 year member of the order of Eastern Star, Nursery Chapter #25 and was a past mother advisor for the Rainbow Girls and recipient of the Grand Cross of Color, She was also a member of the Franklin Women?s Club, Historical Preservation Society and the AARP. On December 6, 1945 she married James A. Snyder Jr. who died on February 11, 2005. Surviving are two daughters Carol Tidd and her husband Thomas and Janet Green and her husband Thomas both of Franklin, a son James A. Snyder III and his wife Lynn of Rogers, Ark.; and two grandchildren A.J. Snyder of St. Charles, MO and Christine Snyder both of Logan, UT. Also surviving is a life long friend Herb Rhorbacker of Columbus, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Friends may call at the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St. from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Richard K. Harry, pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Cooperstown Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Venango County Humane Society, PO Box 1045, Oil City, PA 16301 or the Window Restoration Fund, First United Methodist Church, 1100 Liberty Street, Franklin PA 16323 or a charity of one?s choice.
