Morris "Mick" John Nelson

Morris John "Mick" Nelson, 65, of Franklin, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday April 11, 2019.

Born March 17, 1954 in Franklin he was the son of the late Erwin J. and Betty Anderson Nelson.

Mick was a 1972 graduate of Franklin High School and then went on to work at the former Joy Manufacturing at a Brake Operator, retiring after 42 years.

Mick was someone who loved life and lived it to the fullest every day. He enjoyed traveling and was always willing to help someone in need and would give people the shirt of his back if they needed it.

He was a well-respected Little League Coach and also helped coach his daughter's AAU Basketball team.

Since his retirement, he began fishing and bought a pontoon boat to take his family and friends on the water. Mick loved to golf and recently began playing in the Senior's Golf League with his group of friends.

Mick was a member of the Franklin Elks Lodge #110 and the Jesse G. Greer Post 1835 Franklin VFW where his love of music always came alive on the Jukebox there. He was the former owner of the Oasis in Oil City

Above everything, Mick loved being a Grandpa and cherished he time he spent with all his grandchildren.

On July 4, 2002, he married the former Lorie Swarner and she survives.
Also surviving are six children; Erica Nelson of San Antonio, TX, Paul Nelson of Austin, TX, Emily Nelson of Franklin, Cody Prahl of Oil City, Teresa Marstellar of Oil City and James Smathers of Oil City; a sister, Cindy Paden of Franklin; three grandchildren, David Miller, Kaden Smathers, and Dakota Viele; five nieces and nephews, Dan Baker and his wife Amanda of Franklin, Scott Weaver of Franklin, Carrie Weaver and her fiancé Jason Repp of Franklin, Jason Weaver and his fiancé Bethany of WV, and Samantha Carlson and her husband Chuck of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff - Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin where family and friends are welcome from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM Tuesday and 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. Wednesday.

An Elk's Services will be held at 6:45 P.M. Tuesday in the funeral home.

A time of sharing will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel.

The family will continue to celebrate Mick's life at the Franklin VFW after services at the funeral home and all are welcome to attend.
