Nancy Jo Klink Johnson, 66, former area resident died Friday July 8, 2011 at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Roanoke, VA.
A daughter of the late Howard E. ?Hud? and Donna Marshall Klink she was born in Polk on July 22, 1944. She was a 1964 graduate of Franklin High School.
Mrs. Johnson retired after many years as a social worker in Roanoke and Vinton, VA. She worked with Gus Nicks in establishing the first Mayor?s Youth Council in Vinton. She established and was the founding director of the West End Center for Youth in Roanoke; the center is celebrating 32 years of service.
She made her home in Roanoke. Her daughter, Caroline cared for her in the last days of her illness.
She devoted her life to her family and her many beloved pets including Booey, Daisy and Candy.
She was an avid reader of mystery novels and spent her days reading well into the night.
Surviving are a daughter Caroline Plumer Pulido and her husband Daniel of Falls Church, VA, a step-daughter Tommie Lynn Johnson of Roanoke, VA and two step-sons Joey Dell Johnson of Vinton, VA and Harry Thomas Johnson of Puerto Rico. Also surviving are a brother Howard E. ?Chip? Klink and his wife Sherre of Roanoke, VA and cousins Dr. Gary and Mrs. Tina Klink.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Oscar Thomas Johnson.
Friends will be received in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St. from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Lea A. Guiney, pastor of the Polk United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will follow in the Old Sandy Cemetery, Polk.
