Richard E. "Dick" Pierce, 88 of Franklin, passed away at 11:20 A.M. on Saturday October 27, 2018 at Sugar Creek Station after a lengthy illness.
Born in Oil City on March 30, 1930 he was a son of the late Thomas A. and Gladys I. Pyle Pierce.
Dick attended Rocky Grove High School and then went on to work for the former Amalie Refining Company, J&L Steel, and then Halls Motor Corporation where he retired from.
He was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church and was also active with Myrtle Lodge #316 F & AM in Franklin. At age 50 Dick learned to fly and obtained his Pilot's license; he owned his own airplane for a number of years.
On September 10, 1948, Dick married the former Marian L. Swyers and this year they celebrated 70 years of marriage together.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by three sons; Richard "Rick" Pierce and his wife Diane of Avon Lake, OH, Steven Pierce and his wife Doris "Dee" of Franklin and Jeffrey Pierce of Franklin; five grandchildren, Byron Pierce and his wife Annie of Bay Village, OH, Brett Pierce of Nashville, TN, Jeffrey Pierce Jr. and his wife Maria of Vancouver, B.C., Heather Gricks and her husband Paul of Oil City and Craig Pierce and his wife Charity of Franklin.
Additionally surviving are five great-grandsons; Haiden Schmader of Titusville, Bryce and Carson Gricks of Oil City and Brayden and Brennan Pierce of Bay Village, OH; three step-granddaughters, Arielle, Aly and Ashley all of Vancouver, B.C.; three sisters, Marlene Oberman, Hope Woodring and her husband Daniel and Charity Pierce.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Thomas Pierce and Wayne Pierce; sister-in-laws, Nancy Pierce and Bonnie Beach; mother-in- law, Jessie Emmett and two brother-in-law's, Junior Beach and Glenn Oberman.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff- Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin where family and friends are welcome from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Tuesday and from 10:00 - 10:45 A.M. Wednesday.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sam Wagner and Rev. Darrell Greenawalt of Christ United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will follow at Graham Cemetery.
