Robert A. Hutchison, 93 of Franklin, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 11:25 pm at the Caring Place. Robert was born on May 30, 1923 in Polk, to the late Orville and Mary Heasley Hutchison.
Robert graduated from Polk High School in 1941 and after graduation he went to work at CPT where he met then married Marion Sloss on January 4, 1943. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on June 2, 1943 and served in the 159th Engineer Combat Battalion. While in the Army he earned five bronze stars serving in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe, and at the Battle of The Bulge. When Robert returned home he was employed at the Amalie Refinery until it was destroyed in the 1970 fire. He then went on to work at Joy, Wolf's Head and Pennzoil until he retired in 1985. In his early adult life he played in the Franklin Softball League for Daniel's Transfer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife on December 19, 1986. On September 16 1990, Robert married Anne Wolfkiel, who also preceded him in death on June 8, 2015.
Robert is survived by his children, Marybeth Rearick and her husband Quay of Sugarcreek, John Hutchison and his wife Cindy of Claypool, IN, Bobbie Nelson and her husband Ray of Kennerdell, a stepdaughter Daneen Coakley of Singers Glen, VA, eight grandchildren, several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a sister Helen Doutt of Franklin, a niece Irma Blauser and her husband Robert of Sugarcreek.
In addition to his parents and his wives, Robert was preceded in death by his half-brother Russell Brockway, and step son-in-law, Charles Coakley.
His family is grateful for the friends and staff at Sugarcreek Station and to the staff at the Caring Place during his last days and we thank them.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 312 W. Park St. Franklin, where family and friends are welcome on Monday from 11 am until the time of the service at 2 pm with Roberts daughter, Pastor Bobbie Nelson of Kennerdell Church of God, officiating. Full Military Honors will be rendered by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard at the conclusion of the service.
Interment will be in Lupher Chapel Cemetery.
