Robert G. "Cork" Nelms

Robert G. "Cork" Nelms, 71, of Franklin, passed away at 12:55 A.M. on Monday, March 10, 2025 at UPMC Northwest.

Born in Franklin on April 27, 1953 he was a son of the late Joseph C. Jr. and Ruth Adams Nelms.

Cork was a 1971 graduate of Franklin High School and went on to graduate from Clarion University with his Bachelor's degree and then went on to earn his Masters Degree in Communication from Clarion University as well.

Cork taught for many years in the Pittsburgh School District in the Gifted Program as an Elementary Science Teacher.

Cork enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed music and photography. He was a faithful follower of all Pittsburgh sports teams.

On June 29, 1996 he married the former Carol Kurzenberger and she survives.

Also surviving are four brothers, Joseph C. Nelms III and his wife Pat of Raleigh, NC, and their children, Molly Matt, and Zack, James M. Nelms of Franklin and his son Michael, Steven G. Nelms and his wife Karen of Franklin and their children Katherine and Elizabeth and Dr. John Nelms and his wife Roberta of Williamsport and their children, Emily, Nicholas, Ian and Noah; his step-mother, Marlene Nelms and two step siblings, Dr. Joyce Paterson and Eric Bockstahler all of Williamsville, NY.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin where family and friends are welcome from Noon - 2:00 P.M. on Thursday.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 P.M. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Maddison Bakker, Certified Celebrant, officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Cork's name to the Venango County Humane Society or to a charity of one's choice.
