Rollin S. Rough, 70, of 1533 Pittsburgh Road, died at 5:11 a.m. Thursday February 17, 2011 at UPMC Northwest.
A son of W. Glenn and Margaret Schultz Rough Phinney he was born in Franklin on December 15, 1940. He was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School and received his degree from Allegheny College where he served as treasurer of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity and played clarinet in the Dixieland Band.
Mr. Rough began his career at Joy in 1964 and at the time of his retirement 42 years later he was manager of engineering services. While at Joy he served as an advisor to the Junior Achievement program.
He served in the U.S Army Reserve with the 298th Transportation Division from 1963 until 1969.
Active in the Masons, Rollin served as Worshipful Master of Myrtle Lodge #316 in 1978, was Past Trice Potent Master of the Venango Lodge of Perfection, Oil City, New Castle Consistory and the K.B. Club. He had served as a Chapter Dad for the local DeMolay Chapter.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Franklin.
He enjoyed outdoor activities, hunting with his family first with his father and later with his son, spending time at ?the farm? his family?s homestead near Hannaville, and the hunting camp near Tidioute, golf and gardening. He was a former member of the Rainbow Archery Club and was a member of the Sandycreek Conservancy. For several years he was a member of the Venango County Bloodhound Team, traveling throughout the region to assist in searching for missing persons. A family man he was supportive in his children?s activities attending baseball games, gymnastic meets, and dance and piano recitals. His latest pride and joy was his new granddaughter. He also enjoyed reading and cooking.
On May 4, 1968 he married the former Carol A. Bunce, she survives along with 2 daughters Lynn E. Rough and Leigh A. Hicks and her husband Aaron both of Franklin and a son Curtis G. Rough of Franklin; a granddaughter Gabrielle ?Gaby? Hicks of Franklin, sisters and brothers-in-law Connie & Steve Schenck and Debbie and Bruce Smith all of Franklin, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father Aaron Phinney.
Friends will be received in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St. from 2-4 p.m. Saturday.
Private funeral services will be held for his family with Rev. Ed Gresick officiatig.
Interment will follow in Peters Cemetery.
