Twyla G. Kernic, 80 of Franklin passed away at 7:10 P.M. on Saturday August 3, 2013 at the Caring Place.
Born July 27, 1933 in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Martha Seighwarth Gothe.
Twyla grew up in the Dormont area near Pittsburgh and graduated from Dormont High School in 1951.
She attended the Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as an RN.
Shortly after her marriage she and her husband moved to Wexford and built a home where they resided until 1979 when they moved to Franklin.
Twyla worked at the former Franklin Hospital as a RN retiring in 1995.
She was an active volunteer with RSVP and was a former council woman for Sugarcreek Borough. Mrs. Kernic was a Republican Committee Woman for Venango County. She was well known for working the Election Day polls every year at Galloway United Methodist Church.
Above all else, Twyla was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.
On June 11, 1955 she married John J. Kernic and he survives.
Also surviving, are five children; Cynthia Rombold of Wampum, John D. Kernic and his wife Mary of Ambridge, Keith A. Kernic of Cranberry Twp., Stephen W. Kernic and his wife Patti of Butler, and Lisa Kernic D.O. and her husband Timothy S. Rosenberg of Lancaster; nine grandchildren, Sandra, Rachel, Erica, Nicholas, Eva, Luke, Elizabeth, Anna, and Kristen; and one sister, Joyce Gothe Gingrich of Altoona.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers; Charles, Donald, and Robert Gothe.
Family and friends welcome Tuesday from Noon-3:00 P.M. at Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. 312 West Park St. Franklin.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Caring Place Chapel 103 N. 13th St. Franklin with the Rev. Sue Nageotte of the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Private interment will be made in Allegheny County Memorial Park.
