Velma M. Garland

Velma M. Garland, 87, of Franklin died at 1:46 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at The Caring Place.

A daughter of James E. and Dorothy Henry Duttry she was born in Clearfield on January 1, 1927. Velma attended the public schools in Portage.

She was a long time member of the Church of the Nazarene of Franklin.

Mrs. Garland enjoyed sports particularly basketball and football. She also loved solving puzzles.
She worked at the Franklin Hospital for 23 years first as an assistant and later as supervisor in the housekeeping department retiring in 1990.

On April 30, 1942 she married Evan W. Garland who died on March 24, 1974.

Surviving are 3 daughters Barbara Collins of Franklin, Beverly Griswold and her husband John of Greenville and Debra Bruneau and her husband Albert of Ford City, a daughter-in-law Gloria Garland of Pittsburgh, 14 grandchildren Lori, Robbin, Donna, Denise, Dianne, Wesley, Rebecca, Evan, Trace, Stephen, Kenneth, Jacob, Beau and Teil, 5 step-grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister Norma Zimoski of Alabama, a brother James Duttry of Youngstown, OH and several nieces and nephews.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her son James W. Garland, her daughter Carolyn Mallory, a brother Kenneth Duttry, 4 sisters her twin, Thelma Kope, Anna Sanford, Margaret Duttry and Dorothy Duttry,3 great-grandsons and her son-in-law Donald Collins.

Friends will be received in the Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 312 W. Park St., from 12:30 p.m. Saturday until 2 p.m. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Smith, pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene, officiating.

Interment will be made in the Graham Cemetery.
