Vernon L. Baker, 75, formerly of Harrisville, died Nov. 23 at his home in Glennallen, Alaska, where he lived since 1990. Born in Muddy Creek Township, Aug. 18, 1935, he was a son of Charles R. and Ethel J. English Baker. He was a self-employed contractor and retired in 1984. Mr. Baker was a Protestant and was a former member of the West Unity Community Church. He also was a member of the Grove City American Legion and the National Rifle Association. He was a former member of the National Guard Unit of Grove City. Surviving are his longtime companion, M. Alene Baker of Glennallen, Alaska; four daughters, Verna Rae McCarl and her husband, Scott, of Stoneboro, Valerie Miller and her husband, Merv, of Orville, Ohio, Wendy Cornelius of South Carolina, and Debrah Brandon and her husband, James, of Slippery Rock; Alene's daughters, Diane Stephen of Oregon, Gwen Geldersma of Alaska, Angie Moyer of Slippery Rock and Amber Edwards of Boyers; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister, Charlott Murray and her husband, Bud, of Harrisville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers. BAKER - No services will be held for Vernon L. Baker, who died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010.
