William H. Burgoyne, 91, of 776 Colbert Ave. Oil City died at 6:45 p.m. Thursday September 30, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Burgoyne had previously lived in both Cooperstown and Franklin.
A son of Archie and Alice Paquette Burgoyne he was born in Bridgeport, MI on December 3, 1918. He attended the public schools in Saginaw, MI.
After high school he went to work for Carrier Roofing Company in Detroit.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard merchant ships and sailed worldwide.
In 1946 he moved to Franklin and gained employment as a machinist at Joy. He retired with 35 years of service.
He volunteered with the Venango Toymakers.
On February 14, 1946 he married the former June Walton. She died September 6, 1989.
Surviving are a son Gregory A. Burgoyne of Surprise, AZ, two daughters Alice Corinne Harkless and her husband Charles and Shelley Heckathorn and her husband Michael all of Oil City and 6 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters. There will be no public visitation. Memorial services will be held in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St. Saturday October 9 at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Joseph P. Martin, pastor of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church will officiate.
Interment will be made in Kiser Hill Cemetery.
