William M. Shaffer

William M. Shaffer Sr, of 287 Raymilton Rd., Polk died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Sugar Creek Station.

A son of Millard E. and Della DeLong Shaffer he was born in Franklin on March 30, 1934. He attended the Franklin public schools.

Mr. Shaffer was employed by C.P.T. as a drilling rig builder for 28 years before retiring in 1981.

He enjoyed attending auctions and yard sales, hunting and fishing.

On June 6, 1956 he married the former Shirley J. Carter; she died May 25, 2010. Surviving are two daughters Carol Alcorn and her husband Kenny of Titusville and Pat Groves and her husband Bob of Franklin; two sons William Shaffer Jr. and his wife Kathy of Polk and Steve Shaffer and his fiancé Kim Wischer of Chester, SC; 10 grandchildren Kenny Alcorn Jr. and his wife April, Brenda Porter and her husband Dave, Bobby Groves Jr. and his wife Kayla all of Franklin, Stephanie Seely and her husband Nathan of Dempseytown, Matthew Shaffer of Polk, Dustin Peavy of S.C., Steve Shaffer of Chester, SC, Curtis Shaffer and his wife Lauren of Oil City, and Shawn Groves of Bradford and Laura Baker and her husband Jacob of Barkeyville and 11 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister Barb Kosher of FL and a brother Pete Shaffer of Rocky Grove.

He was preceded in death by two brothers Gene and Gail Shaffer and a sister Norma Baker.

Friends will be received in the Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 312 W. Park St. Franklin from 5-7 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Peter Kusko officiating.

Entombment will be made at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

His family has suggested memorial donations be made to The Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services to help defray funeral expenses.
